2005 - 2006 Highlights
JLN celebrated thirty years of community service by reflecting on the past while looking to the future. The Board of Directors focused upon the new Strategic Plan, which was completed and distributed to all members early in the fall. In response to changes in members’ needs, the Sustainer status was changed to reflect years of service instead of age. In order to further improve retention, the Associate status was also changed from three years to five years.
In late fall of 2005, the Research and Development Task Force was formed to develop a new fall fundraiser for 2007. The Fund Development committee challenged all members to give “$30 for 30 Years.” The Charity Ball committee organized another fun and successful Ball and the Fundraising committee added creative new ideas that were financially successful including a Re-Gifting Auction at the January General Meeting and Lloyd Noble Clean Sweeps.
The Annual Report celebrated the League’s past thirty years, while also presenting the most recent year beautifully. A video was created to be used as a marketing tool to recruit new members and inform the community about the Junior League. Our relationships with the Norman Transcript and Norman Living magazine continue to improve as more articles are printed that inform the community of our activities and successes.
In April the “Second Annual Past Presidents’ Dinner” was held at Legend’s Restaurant in order to share past successes and plan for the future.
AJLI introduced a new initiative to address childhood obesity known as Kids in the Kitchen. JLN implemented the idea here in Norman and the event was a huge success, both locally and internationally. Teen Volunteer was exited.
Through committees, projects, fundraisers, and training opportunities, members of the Junior League of Norman have donated over 7000 hours of volunteer time this past year.
