President's Message
The Junior League of Norman has an exciting and promising year ahead as we enter our 32nd year of service to the Norman community. We are entering a year of growth and development as we implement our new focus area of Fitness and Nutrition. We hope that by selecting a particular issue to address with all of our resources at once such as Fitness and Nutrition that we will be able to make a tremendous impact in this area. This year will be spent studying our current projects and their fit with the new focus as well as researching and implementing new projects under the focus that are not currently being served in the Norman community.
We are also preparing to hold our new fundraiser the Monster Dash a 5K Run and one mile Fun Run/Walk, which will be a great event for the whole family. The Monster Dash is a great opportunity for parents to set an example of fitness and exercise for their children by running in the 5 K after bringing the kids to the one mile Fun Run/Walk. As well as fitting under our new focus, this fundraiser also offers something to every member of the family to come together and participate in supporting the League, while doing something fun together.
I anticipate a year of tremendous reward as I continue my personal journey with the Junior League of Norman. I am inspired every day by the wonderful women in our League that do so much for the Norman community. I plan to bring some fun changes to the General Meetings this year and hope to make them more engaging and productive. I plan to use many of the ideas and inspirations that I received over the past year at various AJLI training workshops to achieve this goal. I am also working to improve the Board’s level of participation in the growth and development of the League by having each Board member accept a “Board Special Assignment” for the year. These include many ideas for growth, improvement in communication within the League and in the community, new collaborations with other non-profit agencies, standardized committee notebooks, member retention and mentorship for first year actives, and many other exciting new ideas for improvement.
The wonderful achievements planned for this year will all be accomplished with coordinated teamwork and I am confident that together we can do anything. We may not accomplish each and every one of the issues that we take on this year, but we will be laying the groundwork for the accomplishments in the years to come. This process is what many of our League President’s and Board members have done in the past to get us to this point and now it is up to us to continue to build on our strengths for the members in the years ahead. Whatever the year ahead brings, it will be the result of the dedication and hard work of all our League members working together as a team.
Sincerely,
Sharon Rentzel
President
